About Us

NSS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA Is a non profit association of the Nair expatriates in the Midwest region of the Canada. It is the concretization of a sincere desire among the Nair community in a foreign land to revive and reinforce the ethnic inclusiveness that KERALA epitomises. The focus of the Organization is on activities related to a comprehensive and all encompassing development of the Nair community both in the Canada and in India. Earnest efforts are taken to help the disadvantaged people of the Nair Community, to enrich the indigenous culture,and to extend a platform for all the accomplished members to showcase their talents. 

Bharatha Kesari Mannathu Padmanabhan

Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan was born on January 2nd, 1878 to Sri. Eswaran Namboodiri of Nilavana Illam and Chiramuttathu Parvathy Amma. He was born with a humble family background and started his career as a teacher in Government Primary School [Kanjirapally Govt. School-1893], at the age of 16. In 1905, he started practicing law in the Magistrates’ Courts and soon became a leading member there.
Mannam, as he was affectionately called, was the forefront fighter against the social injustices which were in force at that time in Kerala and led the famous “Vimochana Samaram”. Mannam took leadership in the Vaikkom Sathyagraham and Guruvayoor temple-entry and led the famous “Savarna Jadha” in 1924, an anti-untouchability agitation. He took part in the Travancore State Congress agitation against Sir C.P Ramaswamy Iyer’s administration in Travancore, for which he was arrested and sent to jail. In 1949, Mannam became a member of the Travancore Legislative Assembly.

Mannam dedicated his life for the upliftment of the Nair Community. He established, expanded and enriched the Nair Service Society and served as its Secretary for 31 years and as President for three years. Nair Bhrithya Jana Sangam [which later became Nair Service Society], was founded by himalong with his thirteen associates from Nair community, at Mannathu House, Perunna, Changanacherry on 31st October 1914. Sri. K.Kelappan Nair was the first President and Mannamwas its Secretary. Mannam gave up his career to become full-time secretary of Nair Bhrithya Jana Sangham.

History of NSS of BC

A group of well wishers and members of Nair Community joined a ZOOM meeting on June 21, 2020 to form NAIR SERVICE SOCIETY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA for the first time in BC, Canada, under the leadership of Thampanoor Mohan. The meeting was presided by Sri Sunil Nair, outgoing President of NSS of North America. Other members who participated in the kick off were Anitha Naveen, Varun Gopinath, Manu Mohanan Pillai, Shalini Bhaskar, Divya S Pillai, Rajasree Nair, Varun Raj, Unni Oppath, Asha Nair, Murali Nair, Sudhir Nair, Aswani, Raju Menon, Raghu Pillai, Jayakrishnan Venugopal, Vinu Pillai. Sri Sridharan Pillai, President of NSS of Edmonton, Alberta and Smt. Sreekumari Nair, National Board Member of NSS of North America were invited and were present in the kick off meeting.
